High ideals

Creating a world-class Bordeaux-style wine starts with deep local knowledge

Our superior wines begin with some serious soil searching

  • The ancient shale and granitic soils found in Stellenbosch are perfectly suited to the cultivation of premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The region’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean climate enables us to craft wines with complexity and unique regional character.
  • We select grape clones that will showcase the desired aromas and taste profiles.
  • We insist on skilled growers who take care in managing the vineyards and canopies, nurturing the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness.
  • To maintain integrity of the fruit and prevent bruising, the grapes are hand-picked and transported to the cellar in small lug boxes.

The wines are perfected by the winemaker’s skill and dedication

  • In an expertly staffed, state-of-the-art production cellar, our   Consultant Winemaker, Miles Mossop, crafts masterly wines, year after year.
  • Modern equipment and high standards of hygiene in the cellar facilitate pristine production.
  • Rigorous bunch and berry sorting ensures that only perfectly ripened grapes are vinified to make The High Road wines.
  • We nurture our wines to maturity exclusively in imported French oak barrels from top international cooperages.
  • Before release, bottle maturation takes place in our cellar at optimally controlled temperature and humidity.
  • Our wines are bottled under expert supervision, using high quality sterilised bottles and imported Portuguese corks.
